Football 2023

Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at 12:00 Pacific (3:00 PM Eastern)

Zoom Registration required here.

It’s January, the college football championship has just ended and the NFL playoffs are all around us.  Football just keeps getting bigger and richer.  The NFL playoffs went from 12 to 14 teams a few years ago. Reports have suggested that Google paid as much as $2.5 billion for the rights to NFL Sunday Ticket.   And having conquered America, the NFL is moving overseas playing five international games in 2022.  At the collegiate level, the playoffs are expanding from 4 teams to 12 teams while NIL licensing has enabled players to be paid.  Football and financial considerations were behind USC’s and UCLA’s decision to terminate a decades-long affiliation with the PAC-12 and decamp for the Big Ten.  However, the recent life-threatening injury suffered by Buffalo Bills defensive back Damar Hamlin reminded us of football’s human costs.

Please join us for a discussion and look at football and the many issues that surround it. Panelists will include:
