The Harvard Law School Association of Los Angeles invites you to join us for a special in-person panel with Harvard Law alumnae who currently serve as California state or federal court justices and judges. We will be exploring how each panelist arrived at their current role, their experiences as women on the bench, and more, with an opportunity for attendees to network prior to the panel.
Light appetizers and beverages will be provided, and garage parking will be validated by the 54th Floor Receptionist. Parking entrances are on Hope Street and Lower Grand Ave. and directions are available upon request. Registration is required and non-alumni guests are welcome to attend. Please bring ID.

Hon. Gail Ruderman Feuer (‘84)
California Court of Appeal (Second Appellate District)
Associate Justice Gail Ruderman Feuer was appointed in 2018 by Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr. to the Second Appellate District, Division 7. She previously served for 13 years on the Los Angeles Superior Court in criminal, civil, and family law assignments. Prior to her appointment to the bench, Justice Feuer was a senior attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Counsel after serving as an attorney in the Environment Section of the California Attorney General’s Office. Following law school, Justice Feuer served as a law clerk to Honorable A. Wallace Tashima (then sitting on the district court), followed by two years in a boutique litigation firm. Justice Feuer is currently the Vice-Chair of the California Commission on Access to Justice.

Hon. Kenly Kiya Kato (‘96)
United States District Court, Central District of California
Judge Kato was sworn in as a United States District Judge for the Central District of California in November 2023, following her nomination by President Joseph R. Biden and confirmation by the United States Senate. She previously served as a United States Magistrate Judge since 2014. Judge Kato received her J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School and B.A., summa cum laude, from UCLA. She began her legal career as a law clerk to the late Honorable Robert M. Takasugi, the first Japanese American to be appointed to the federal bench. In addition to her civil and criminal docket, Judge Kato also serves as a bench officer on the Court’s collaborative courts programs, which offer a pathway for individuals charged with or convicted of federal crimes to attain rehabilitation and become contributing members of the community.

Hon. Elaine Lu (‘94)
Los Angeles Superior Court
Judge Elaine Lu was appointed to the Los Angeles Superior Court in 2007. She currently presides over a Complex Civil Court, which handles a docket of class actions, mass torts, and multi-party complex actions. Judge Lu serves on the Civil Curriculum Committee of the California Judicial Council’s Center for Judicial Education and Research and has taught state-wide and county-wide seminars for fellow bench officers on a variety of topics, including class actions, privileges, punitive damages, anti-SLAPP, civil caselaw updates, and new civil legislation. Judge Lu is also actively engaged in community outreach as Co-Chair of the L.A.S.C.’s Power Lunch Committee and as a presiding judicial officer at Pasadena Teen Court.

Jillian London is a partner in the Century City office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. She practices in the firm’s Litigation, Media, Entertainment & Technology, Class Actions, and Appellate and Constitutional Law Practice Groups. Jillian has extensive experience litigating all stages of commercial disputes in the technology and entertainment sectors, and has particular experience in media relations, First Amendment, breach of contract, antitrust, and class action disputes. Prior to joining the firm, Jillian served as a law clerk to The Honorable Chester J. Straub in the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and to The Honorable Claire C. Cecchi in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. Jillian is in her sixth year as a Board member of the HLSA of LA, and currently serves as Social Activities Co
