Join the Harvard Law School Association of Los Angeles for a screening of the Academy Award-winning I’m Still Here, on May 20 at 6:30 pm PT.
Set against the backdrop of Brazil's 1970s military dictatorship, I'm Still Here chronicles the harrowing true story of Eunice Paiva, a mother of five whose husband, former congressman Rubens Paiva, is abducted by the regime. As Eunice confronts a web of state-sanctioned silence and repression, she transforms from a grieving wife into a formidable human rights advocate. Directed by Walter Salles and featuring a riveting, Golden Globe-winning performance by Fernanda Torres, this poignant drama delves into themes of resilience, justice, and the enduring impact of authoritarianism.
I'm Still Here premiered at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, earning the Best Screenplay award, and went on to win Best International Feature Film at the 97th Academy Awards, marking a historic first for Brazilian cinema.
Networking will start at 6:30pm PT. The screening will begin at 7pm PT. After the screening, please feel free to stay behind and discuss the movie and hear what other HLSA-LA members thought about the movie.
The run time for I’m Still here is approximately 2 hours, 15 minutes.
The film is Rated PG-13 for thematic content, some strong language, drug use, smoking, and brief nudity.
